About Polis Chrysochous
If peace and quiet in harmony with nature are what you are after, head for the Polis Chrysochous area and the various picturesque villages that are sprung like pearls along the coast eastwards to Pomos, and westwards to Fontana Amarosa, an area of natural wilderness with dramatic coastlines and sandy coves.
Polis Chrysochous is the main market town which nestles in the curve of Chrysochous Bay. Its name comes from the Greek word meaning “golden”, many believe it refers to the way of life !
For those that have left the colourful hustle of Paphos behind and made northward’s following the course of the valley, through the citrus groves and sleepy villages, do so because they are seeking “something different”. There are few city -style restaurants and clubs, in fact dining in one of the traditional restaurants is something to enjoy for the whole evening. What the area does offer is peace, solitude, beautiful countryside, tremendous history, unspoilt villages, and a coastline that stretches for miles with crystal clear waters.
In recent years, an increasing number of people have chosen to buy property in the area, for exactly these reasons, although some have been drawn to Latchi because of its pretty harbour, yacht moorings and plethora of water sports. Others by the magnificent Akamas Peninsula which lies just a short distance away.
The Anassa Hotel is situated just west of Latchi. This hotel is amongst the best in the world and regularly welcomes the international jet-set, and some like the idea that the hotel and its magnificent restaurants are there if an evening with a difference is needed!
Projects worth €141 million are set to transform the Polis Chrysochous area in the coming years. Many infrastructure projects are in progress, such as low-lying breakwaters using local stone that will be situated between Limni and Latchi. The breakwaters will ensure that the sand stays on the beaches and is not shifted further along the coast by waves. Among these developments is the €60m expansion of the harbour at Latchi, described as “one of the most important tourist hubs of the municipality”. Upgraded and extra facilities for water, petrol and electricity will also be installed so that it can attract larger yachts from afield. The project will also include the renovation of the central part of the road leading to the port and the beach in the center of Latchi, the construction of a 1,900 m2 parking lot and the renovation of the coastal strip. The main goal is to improve the aesthetic appearance of the resort, as well as its accessibility and functionality.
One major project in construction, is the Paphos – Polis Chrysochous Road, this will drastically reduce the travelling time to Paphos International Airport by half – just 25 minutes – which will make it even more popular.
“Since 2017, we’ve seen a total investment of €165 million in completed, ongoing, and planned projects within the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous. This significant expenditure points out our firm commitment to the area’s development and future prosperity, these initiatives, alongside the completion of the Paphos-Polis Road, are expected to attract more investors and boost tourism in the region”, said the mayor of the area.
